Project Stages

Stage 5         Establishment and Closure

Five Project Stages

For some projects the end of the implementation stage is the end of the project.

However, many others are more like moving house – there is still a year’s work to redecorate, tell people that you have moved, take over telephones, and contact schools, etc.

These projects need a final stage; in part tidying-up procedures etc.; in part ensuring that all know that the project is over and has been successful; and in part ensuring that everyone’s contributions have been recognised by their line managers and by the Project Sponsor.

To close this step, those organisations that have built an excellence in the management of projects carry out a Project Review. Sometimes a very formal review, sometimes a more informal one. But a review that quite consciously looks at the way the project was organised and managed so as to learn the lessons that will help the organisation to improve.
